Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I get an error message when trying to run Open Fitness on OS X 10.3.9? This happens to some 10.3.9 users because of a problem with Java on that operating system. Apple released a Java update that may fix the problem for you (check your available updates). However, most likely, you will need to upgrade to OS X 10.4.

How many users or clients can I track with Open Fitness?
There are 2 different licenses for Open Fitness. The standard license allows you to track up to 5 users or clients. The pro license allows you to track any number of users or clients.

Why do the charts show the wrong weight amounts for resistance exercises?
By default, Open Fitness displays charts based on Estimated One-Rep Max, which allows you to see strength gains if you use the same amount of weight, but more reps. You can change Open Fitness to chart actual weight amounts using the Options menu in Progress Journal.

Can I get a discount for my company or organization?
Yes you can. We can give you a great discount through our volume pricing. We can also provide you with a coupon code, that members of your organization can enter on the checkout page. Please contact us to get a discount code.

Why won't Diet Journal save my diets? I enter them, but then they're gone later.
First, make sure you are clicking the Save button, rather than the Exit button after you enter your diet. Also, make sure you're not entering a diet for the same date as another diet. If you enter 2 diets for 4/5/2005, the second one will overwrite the first one. You can add as many meals as you want to a single diet, but only 1 diet per day.

What are the minimum system requirements for running Open Fitness?
For Windows, 50 MB of disk space, 64 MB of RAM, Windows 98, NT 4.0 SP 5, ME, 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Advanced Server, or XP.

For Mac OSX, at least 50 MB of disk space.

How do I upgrade from PTW to Open Fitness?
DO NOT unistall the old version of PTW. After you install Open Fitness, you can use the import utility by choosing Import From a Previous Version from the Tools menu. Once all of your clients/users have been copied into Open Fitness, you can safely uninstall the old version of PTW. You might want to make a backup of your PTW data, so you'll always have it.

I forgot my key, how do I get it sent to me again?
Your key is available through Share-It. You can log into your Share-It account and get your key by going to www.shareit.com, choosing 'Customer Service', and then clicking the Login button.

How do I get PTW/Open Fitness to sync with PTW - Mobile Edition?
Currently, syncing is not supported with PTW - Mobile Edition.

Does Open Fitness run on MacOS 8 or MacOS 9?
On the Mac, Open Fitness only runs on OSX. Earlier versions of MacOS are not supported.

I just bought a new computer. How do I get Open Fitness and all of my data onto the new computer?
Follow these steps, and you should have all of your PTW data on your new computer...

  1. Install Open Fitness onto the new computer. If you don't have the Open Fitness CD, you can download the latest version.
  2. Run Open Fitness on your new computer at least once. Enter your key if it asks you for one.
  3. On your old computer, run Open Fitness and choose "Backup Database" from the "Tools" menu.
  4. A backup file (some_file_name.ptw) will be created in whatever directory you choose. Copy that backup file over to your new computer (by burning it onto a CD or whatever method you choose).
  5. On the new computer, run Open Fitness and choose "Restore Database" from the "Tools" menu. In the file dialog that comes up, locate the backup file you made.
  6. Open Fitness should be busy for a few seconds, after which you can restart it and all your information should be there.

I have two computers. Can I buy one license and put Open Fitness on both computers?
If you are the only person using that copy of Open Fitness, or if it's only for personal use (yourself or your family), one license allows you to install on all of your computers. If you are using Open Fitness in a commercial or public setting where more than one person will use the installation (a fitness center or school, for instance), you'll need to purchase one license per computer or a site license.

Does Open Fitness run on operating systems other than Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux?
Open Fitness should run on any platform that has a Java runtime version 1.4 or higher.
